The concept of barn quilts began with Donna Sue Groves and her wish to honor her mother, Maxine, and her Appalachian heritage by having a painted quilt hung on her barn. That simple vision spread from her home in Adams County, Ohio to Tennessee where the joint effort of the Appalachian Quilt Trail was born. Donna's simple but brilliant idea spread quickly since beginnings in 2001 and now there are thousands for barn quilts and hundreds of local trails in the USA and Canada. This page is under construction but will feature links to trails in Appalachian states that have websites and/or Facebook pages to help you find and visit locations on your travels.
